Stories fresh from the studio

Each episode is a doorway into someone else's world. We pick topics that surprise us — because if we are genuinely curious, you will be too.

Aerial autumn view of a small Quebec town
Episode 147 · 42 min

The cartographer who mapped silence

We followed a sound ecologist into the Eastern Townships to record the quietest places left in Quebec — and what they tell us about how noise reshapes our brains.

Grain, glue, and eighty years of sawdust

Episode 145 · 51 min

When the orchestra went underground

During the pandemic a chamber ensemble performed in parking garages. This episode explores how acoustics, community, and rebellion collided beneath concrete ceilings.

How an episode comes to life

Our production pipeline is deliberate. We never rush a story — every episode passes through five distinct stages before it reaches your ears.

Discovery and pitch review

Every episode begins with a story pitch — from our team, a listener, or a guest. We evaluate each idea for emotional depth, timeliness, and whether it offers a perspective rarely heard elsewhere. About one in twelve pitches moves forward.

Pre-interview research

Our producers spend between two and four weeks gathering background material, reading primary sources, and conducting informal pre-calls with potential guests. We arrive at the real interview already knowing the story — so we can chase the surprises.

Recording sessions

We record in our Sherbrooke studio or travel on location. Field recordings add texture that a booth cannot replicate: the hum of a workshop, birdsong in a forest, the echo of an empty church. We capture it all at broadcast quality.

Editing and sound design

Raw recordings are sculpted into a narrative arc. We layer ambient sound, compose transitional music in-house, and carefully balance dialogue levels so you can listen comfortably whether you are on headphones or a car speaker.

Release and community feedback

Episodes are published across all major platforms simultaneously. We monitor listener responses, incorporate feedback into future episodes, and occasionally release follow-up segments when a story evolves after publication.

Things listeners often ask

We publish a new full-length episode every two weeks. Between main releases we occasionally drop shorter bonus segments — outtakes, extended interviews, or listener mailbag responses — so there is almost always something fresh in your feed.

Absolutely. Use the contact form below and select "Story pitch" as the subject. We read every submission. If your idea aligns with our editorial focus we will reach out within ten business days to discuss next steps.

Yes — every episode is free on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and most other apps. We are funded through sponsorships and listener donations, so your support directly keeps the show independent and ad-light.
